Wellness House offers individual, family or group support to children, teens and families who have lost a loved one to cancer. All programs/services are free of cost.
Whole Family Consultations: Losing a loved one to cancer affects the entire family. Wellness House encourages whole family consultations. During these sessions, you will meet with one of our counselors to learn how to better communicate and understand how grief is impacting your family, as well as to determine how Wellness House can meet your family’s specific needs. Family members of all ages and traditions are welcome.
Turtles Bereavement Group: A bereavement group for children between the ages of 6-12 years old. This group meets on Monday evenings from 4:30-5:45pm. Through expressive arts and discussion, kids have an opportunity to connect with others in a similar situation. A simultaneous group for parents is offered, though attendance at both groups is not required.
Teen Bereavement Group: An eight-week bereavement group for teens between the ages of 13-18 years old who have experienced the loss of a loved one to cancer. This group meets on Monday nights from 6:30-7:30pm at the main location. The group provides teens with the opportunity to connect with other teens who are going through similar situations, discuss the impact cancer has on their family, explore the impact of loss, and learn about healthy coping strategies to manage stress and changes they are experiencing.
Individual Support for Children and Teens: Children of all ages can benefit from individual therapeutic experiences. Our developmentally tailored support, education, and expressive play sessions provide a space for children 2-18 to express their emotions, process their experiences with grief/loss, and clarify any misconceptions.
Sibling Bereavement Group: This bereavement group is specifically for children between the ages of 6-12 years old who have lost a brother or sister to cancer. This group meets on Thursday evenings from 5-6pm at the main location (131 North County Line Road, Hinsdale IL). This group provides opportunities for siblings to learn about grief, process feelings and experiences surrounding cancer and loss, express emotions, explore healthy coping strategies as well as provide a space for kids to connect with other children impacted by the loss of a brother or sister to cancer.
