If you have recently experienced a loss of a loved one, Advocate Hospice offers help during this difficult time. We support you and your family in a number of different ways, including:

  • Daybreak is a monthly newsletter that provides compassionate support and guidance on navigating the grieving process. It contains insights from others who have experienced the death of a loved one as well as information on issues like dealing with loneliness and embracing spirituality.
  • Grief support groups, which are facilitated by licensed bereavement counselors or social workers, offer the opportunity to share experiences and connect with others who are also coping with the loss of a loved one.
  • One-on-One grief support is provided by licensed bereavement counselors or social workers for those who need additional support.
  • Grief workshops explore different ways of handling emotions in a positive way. Examples include journaling, collage making, memory box making, and the healing power of music.
  • Education classes provide useful information on topics like understanding grief, using coping tools, and managing grief during the holidays.
  • Camp Bear Hugs is a two-day camp specifically geared to children who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Children engage in a number of grief-support activities in a safe and fun environment, such as playing games, horseback riding and the Memory Bear Workshop. During the Workshop, adult volunteers help the children assemble a bear in memory of their loved one. The bears are created using an article of clothing from their loved one and can be decorated with momentoes that are meaningful to the children.

Remember, you are not alone in your grief. Advocate Hospice’s Bereavement Program offers a wide range of opportunities for individual or group support throughout the Chicagoland area.
